Pinterest is a sometimes the quiet friend sitting next to a bossy Facebook and a confident Instagram, but actually can have much to contribute to a micro business in the right circumstances!
NOTE: I am not a believer in the need to be on all platforms to find success on socials and as micros, it's impossible to do well on every platform. However, read this little updated guide and see if you Pinterest is the missing key in your marketing strategy.
Here are 10 things to know about Pinterest:
Pinterest is a search engine and not just a social media platform. People travel to Pinterest to find what they're looking for rather than calsually scroll. Your content will therefore behave like a little blog or products listing. Your 'pins' or pieces of content are evergreen and searchable.
Pinterest is great for driving traffic to your website. Pins will link directly to your ideal landing space whether that's a shop, blog, website membership etc etc. You can also use this platform if you're using a lead magnet to get sign ups for your email subscriber list.
Pinterest works really well for particular types of businesses. Home, lifestyle and crafts are huge on the platform as are wellness, slow living and sustainability. YOu will also find niches like food and events go well too plus personal development, coaching or handmade products. Really the sky is the limit!
Pinterest has a savvy algorithm that's more concerned with quality content than follow numbers. A well optimised pin with good key words can win the day even with a very small audience.
Pinterest like consistency so it requires a level of commitment. This doesn't need to take hours but regular pinning is better than bulk pinning once a month.
Pinterest likes key words because of it's search based algorithm. Add key words to your bio, name, board headers and descriptions as well as the pins themselves. Think about what your ideal customer would search for and go for that!
Pinterest likes aesthetic so make your your pins are attractive enough to click. Use vertical images (2:3 ratio) e.g. 1000px x 1500px and of top quality of course. You could use a Canva template for ease here and feel free to add your logo or website address quietly in the corner.
Pinterest offers great business support. Claim your free business account with your brand name and many good websites will allow you to optimise for Pinterest (so your pins go through to the website brilliantly) and enable 'rich pins' which will add meta data to your pin like price etc. For example if you pinned a handbag at £30 and it was reduced to £25 on your website, the pin would also change price automatically.
Pinterest loves to help people so ensure your content does too. Use titles in a blog style like '5 ways to....' or '10 lovely ideas for...' to attract users and make your pins clickable.
Keep trying! Pinterest offers free analytics with your business page and it's ok to experiment with types of content that might be useful
Don't forget you can head over to Groups in the Hub to ask others how they did well on Pinterest or share your latest triumphs or not!

Thank you for sharing, very useful
